Erma Bridgewater

On February 26, 2009, Erma Bridgewater
was the recipient of the Distinguished
Community Services Award
given to her at a Black History Month
event held by the Muslim American
Society. Born in 1913, Erma graduated
from the University of Illinois with a degree in sociology
and was Director of the Douglas Community Center
for 24 years. She remains an active volunteer.
The night’s events also included talks by Carol
Ammons and keynote speaker Imam Johari Abelmalek,
and a performance by Ron Hanif Bridgewater
and his jazz band.
