The Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC) and the City of Urbana are happy to launch Open Scene, a project to reimagine downtown Urbana through arts-based dialogues led by youth. Open Scene will be anchored at the UCIMC, a media and arts center located at the historic post office building in the heart of downtown. In May 2016, we announced that we have won a $50,000 “Our Town” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support this innovative youth media project.

We are now accepting applications for youth and adult stakeholders to be involved in Open Scene. There will be twelve youth and ten adults chosen. Those who apply should commit to attending weekend planning meetings in late 2016 and four workshops in Spring 2017, as well as a final community showing. Stipends of $600 will be provided to youth members.

Applications to participate can be filled out online here.

Paper copies of the application can be picked up at the Independent Media Center, City of Urbana, Urbana Free Library, Champaign Public Library, Douglass Branch Library, and Phillips Recreation Center.
